Mary-Sue A Mary-Sue is an original character who is absolutely perfect. She is absolutely perfect, she induces nausea. A Mary-Sue is an unrealistic character who embodies everything the author wishes in herself(/himself...I guess). She is pretty (sometimes without meaning to be), talented, and strikes awe in all who know her. Not all characters who fit this description are Mary-Sues, though. But if the focus of the story is on this character from the beginning of the story (or near the beginning), then the character is stands a good chance of being a Mary-Sue.

Shoujo-ai literally, 'girl love'. Yuri's non-graphic younger sister.

Shounen-ai literally, 'boy love'. Yaoi's non-graphic little brother. Shounen-ai fics deal more with the emotional side of the relationship.

Songfic a fic based around or inspired by a song

Vidfic a fic describing what the music video of [insert miscellanious song name here] would look like with [insert choice show/book/movie/whatever here] characters in it

Yaoi contains (male/male) homosexuality (it has to be male/male; there's a different term for female/female) I'd look carefully at the rating for fics like this. Yaoi could be taken to mean the fic contains graphic sexual content, or just contains homosexuality. (also, see shounen-ai)

I don't really see much Japanese in the Digimon fandom, but when I started reading Gundam Wing fics I was lost! So here's some Japanese terms you can throw around to show how much smarter then everyone else you are.

[insert-name-here]-chan Used for little peoples (and by that I mean small children) or cute people. Or your sweet-heart.

[insert-name-here]-kun Um....it shows that the person addressed is male? It's only used on guys, I know that....

baka idiot. (Apparently baka is, like, a root meaning all things stupid and moronic)

hai yes

koibito lover, sweet-heart, stuff like that

ohayou-gozaimazu Good morning. (often just ohayo)

oyasuminasai Good night (often just oyasumi)
